Weather: The week starts with 40 degrees and dust

The start of the summer’s first heat wave begins today, Monday (10/6), with temperatures expected to exceed 40 degrees Celsius during the week. Mercury will reach “red” and will be accompanied by a new wave of dust.

Today, the weather conditions will be sunny, only locally cloudy, and it is likely to rain occasionally and temporarily in mountainous mainland regions during the day and afternoon. Atmospheric dust concentration will be relatively high mainly on the mainland and the Twelve Islands.

The temperature will be 18-34 degrees in Western Macedonia, 19-35 in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace, 19-32 in Epirus, 19-39 in Thessaly, 18-37 degrees in Sterea and Peloponnese. Ionian Islands 16 to 32, Northern and Eastern Aegean 19 to 37, Eastern Aegean 24 to 36, Cyclades 20 to 34, Dodecanese 20 to 31 to and in Crete from 19 to 31 to 36 degrees Celsius.

Winds in the North Aegean will initially blow from northerly directions up to 2 to 4 Beaufort, but will gradually shift to southeasterly directions with the same intensity in the afternoon. Winds in the central Aegean region will initially be 2-4 Beaufort northerly, but will gradually shift to westerlies of the same intensity in the afternoon. In the South Aegean, winds will blow from the west from 2 to 4 Beaufort and from the east from 3 to 5 Beaufort. Winds will be southerly 2 to 4 Beaufort in central and northern Ionia. In the afternoon, the sea breeze will prevail on the northern coast.
Temperatures are forecast to rise further, mainly in the south. It will reach 40 in the central and southern continents, 41 locally, 39 in the northern continents, and 35-36 in the island country.

Cloudy conditions will prevail in the northern continental areas mainly during the day, so temporary rains are likely to occur mainly in the mountains of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
The wind will be 3-5 in the west and northwest, and gradually 6-7 Beaufort in Ionia. In the rest of the regions, the wind will blow from the west at 3-5, and locally up to 6 Beaufort in the seas.
Temperatures are expected to drop slightly in the center and north, but remain very high in the south.
