Often people refuse to accept their condition and the chronic condition that may worsen. Not all. Judi Dench, for example, recently revealed that she retired from acting due to her failing eyesight, putting off her roles for a long time by making superhuman efforts to learn her lines with the help of her reading daughter and friends.

Judi Dench suffers from age-related macular degeneration, which affects more than 700,000 people in the UK. He did not hide his problem. In an interview in 2022 Louis Theroux spoke bravely about his failing eyesight: “I don’t want to retire. I don’t work much now because I can’t see. It’s bad.” And he added: “I have a photographic memory, so someone tells me this is your line… I can do it“.
He announced last year Market mirror that he is still trying to find solutions, but “I can’t see it on the set of the movie anymore… and I can’t see reading. But it’s just something you deal with (…) It is difficult if I have a big role. I haven’t found the way yet“.
The 89-year-old actress has long spoken about the effects of her condition on her professional life and the need to memorize her lines orally before going on set, writes Catherine Soard in The Guardian.
In 2021, she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast. A year later, he starred in Richard Eyre’s dramatic film Hallelujah, an adaptation of Alan Bennett’s play of the same name. His last screen role was a cameo in Sean Anders’ Christmas musical comedy Spirited (2022).
Her credits include playing M in eight James Bond films and Queen Elizabeth I of England in Shakespeare in Love (1998), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. Dench has also had a sustained and highly successful career in theater, winning a Tony Award and eight Olivier Awards. She has also appeared in television series such as the comedy Time Passes with Jeffrey Palmer and A Fine Romance with her late husband Michael Williams.
At the Chelsea Flower Show, a primary school student presented him with the first seedling that grew from .Sycamore Gap”, a 200-year-old fake plane tree that was illegally cut down by vandals last year.
