During his two-day visit to the mountainous Arta, the member of the European Parliament, Nicos Papandreou, expressed his support for the efforts to include the monuments of the Achelu Valley in the list of cultural and natural heritage of UNESCO.

The monasteries of Seltsou, Megalochari and Mesopyrgos, as well as the amazing stone bridges of the valley, are not only witnesses of our cultural past, but also living spaces that connect people with their roots.
The need to protect the Acheloos valley from modern interventions was emphasized. As a member of the Culture Committee of the European Parliament, I will support the efforts to include the monuments of the Axelus valley in the list of cultural and natural heritage of UNESCO. This is a serious step to protect and highlight the importance of the area at the global level.”
Nikos Papandreou said that he was impressed by the beaches of Acheloos and swam in the crystal clear waters of the river, while tasting traditional food and delicacies in the village of Megalochari.
